His Grace Bishop Missael established the church in Nottingham on Saturday 27/07/1996 where the first Coptic liturgy in Nottingham took place at a rented church. This service was also blessed with the attendance of H.G. Bishop Athanasius of Bany Sewaif.
In the next decade the congregation grew significantly and on 15th February 2006 the Coptic Orthodox Church of Nottingham successfully managed to purchase its own building.
Work started on the renovation of the former Anglican Church to accommodate the Coptic Orthodox traditions, and a priest’s house was built on the grounds of the church.
On Sunday 22nd March 2009, His Grace Bishop Missael led the official inauguration ceremony, opening the new church and dedicating its Altar to the Mother of God, the Virgin St. Mary and St. George the Prince of Martyrs.
The Church was consecrated by the hand of His Holiness Pope Tawadros II on Saturday 13th May 2017.
